4 Signs That A Rider’s Approaching

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Palm Sunday is one of the most important events in the history of Christianity. It commemorates the celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem, the same streets that He would be forced to carry the cross through one week later.

In Luke 19, the people welcomed Jesus into the city with praise to honor him as the Messiah and King.

35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. 37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

This verse shows Jesus arriving not on horse but on a donkey, which was contrary to the way kings and nobles would traditionally enter a city.

However, it’s the perfect picture of how Jesus does things, He never comes how we expect Him to come; but He always comes with a purpose.

In Revelation 19:11, John the apostle describes how Jesus will return:

“Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.”

It’s important to be mindful of the signs and there is an awakening happening right now in the church. We can sense the Lord approaching and whenever he draws near this is what happens:

1. There is always an entourage.

Just before the Lord comes there is always a great commotion. There is always a dryness, always a rumbling, and always a stirring in the hearts of the people He’s calling.

There will always be people asking questions why things are happening the way they are in the world. There will always be a cry deep down in the hearts of his people to return.

2. God never comes the way you think He will.

The Lord comes however he wants to come, but he does so in order to get past your dignity filter. Jesus God will work His way past your pride to bring his power.

3. The Lord comes near because worship makes the way.

Our church is a house of worship and may we always have a truly spontaneous praise rising up for our King. Worship is not just lights, graphics, and precise instrumentation, true worship comes from the whole church lifting up their voices in a loud declaration before God.

4. When the Lord comes near the earth shakes.

When the Lord comes, he always brings truth. The world may not be ready to handle the truth that God brings, but it’s always relevant, timely, and needed.

Just like it says in Psalm 99:1,

“The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake.”

As the world drifts away from the Lord we fall into greater darkness. There is a crying out… then God visits us again. You may not know who He is, or how He’ll come…but He’s coming.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Crew Stories

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]We recently launched New Life Crews across all of our campuses and we’re already seeing the impact. Here are just a few highlights from some of our crews happening all over Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Awakening 20+ Guys

“One of the guys in my crew brought a new friend with him to crew who’s never been to our church. He prayed for the first time ever with us on his first day at crew. We bought him a Bible the next week and last week he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior publicly at crew. I lead him in a salvation prayer and we prayed over him as a crew – it was really awesome.” -Matt

Coffee, Kids + Crew

“All the moms really needed to get together and share about life as a new mom. You realize that all the things you think you’re going through alone are things all moms deal with. It’s great hearing different perspectives and it’s awesome to have so much encouragement from all the other moms! It’s like a refuel!” -Yanina

EG Mens

“I thank God to be a part of a church that the more it grows the more room we make to grow together in the word of God. ” -Christian

Fifty and Fabulous

“Crew was fabulous this week! I was surprised to see how comfortable and open everyone was. It was great being able to connect with the ladies on a deeper level, and we all left encouraged and excited for the weeks ahead! It’s not enough to just see each other once a week on a Sunday. Crews make it easy to build genuine relationships that go beyond Sunday morning. I love it!” -Mehatie

Single Moms

“Single moms crew was awesome! We had so much fun and really learned a lot about each other. Talking about the verse this week really made everyone realize how important our crew is! You need a crew because those are the people you’re going to turn to. They are going to be the ones that pray with you and rejoice with you! The people you do life with.” -Cristina

We love seeing what God is doing in and through our crews! We encourage you to share your Crew Stories with us on social media using the hashtag #NewLifeCrew.

Why Crews?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We have a problem at New Life. The problem is that our church is growing…fast. This is a great problem to have! However, we want to make sure every individual at our church is not just attending a service, but truly connected to the body and living in community with other believers.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 tells us how important community is to the health of your Christianity. If you are going to make it in your relationship with Christ, you’re going to need to be a part of a community… you are going to need a Crew.

Crews are the small groups of New Life, designed to create a deeper sense of community.

Here are 3 reasons why crews are so powerful:

1. Crews Are A Place to Grow [Discipleship]

Jesus commanded that we make disciples in Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Church attendance alone does not make you a disciple. You’ve got to be on a journey with other disciples.

The Crew

“You cannot make a disciple until you have been a disciple. You cannot give what you do not have.” -@JordanBoyce #NewLifeCrew

God places the people around you in the church that you need in order to grow and thrive. Psalm 1 begins with, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.” You have to be careful who you surround yourself with. You will become like the people you spend the most time with so make sure you’re surrounded by people who are pursuing God and serving Him fully.

2. A Place to Belong [Friendship]

You need some good friends in your life. Friends that will do anything to get you closer to Christ. Satan’s goal is to isolate you, to get you by yourself. A predator will always go after those who separate themselves from the herd.

In the story of the paralytic, the paralyzed man had 4 friends who physically carried him, tore the roof off a house and lowered him to the feet of Jesus. You need a crew who has your back regardless of your situation – in other words, a crew that will carry you.

You need some friends that know you intimately and still love you completely.

3. A Place to Connect [Community]

The greatest power of the church is found in its unity. But you can never have unity without community.

In Acts 2, we find the example of how the Holy Spirit falls on the disciples during the Pentecost.

Crews are powerful when you begin to share openly about what God is doing in your life. Share your struggles, your testimonies, your prayer needs and your challenges because your crew is there to pray with you, agree with you, and fight along-side you.[/vc_column_text][vc_button2 title=”Find A Crew” style=”square” color=”black” size=”md” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fatnewlife.org/crews/join-a-crew|title:Crews|target:%20_blank”][vc_button2 title=”Start A Crew” style=”square” color=”black” size=”md” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fatnewlife.org/crews/start-a-crew|title:Crews|target:%20_blank”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

This week, we closed out our series “DNA | What Makes Us, Us” with a powerful sermon on worship from Pastor Steve. Worship is a part of who we are at New Life; we are a worship center. What a powerful Sunday it was as we learned more about worship and immediately put it into practice. The Spirit of God moved greatly!
