Missing Jesus

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”-Matthew 7:21

It is very possible to be in church and miss Jesus. Likewise, it is easy to do church, but can you be church? Can you live for Christ day in and day out? Does he shape who you are and what you do? Or are you just going through the motions?

There is a significant difference between believing in Jesus and actually knowing him. To believe is to acknowledge, but to know Jesus and have a relationship with him brings about a whole new meaning to life. Knowing the Lord transforms your heart and produces action. You are no longer living for yourself. When you are in tune with Jesus your mind-set is hooked on the eternal.

When you begin to think that you are “all-set” you’ve missed it. God is always doing something new! Do you have eyes to see or are you spiritually blind? It is very easy to get caught up in the motions of church, and this can be detrimental to your soul. The Lord is birthing newness each day and if we aren’t on his wavelength we will for sure miss it.

For quite some time, I looked at my life like it was perfect and unfortunately I would pass judgment on those “sinning differently” than me. My approach to others was out of pride and correction instead of love and compassion. But God has a way of humbling that type of mindset. I thought I was good, which enabled me to be blind to the needs of others.

God will remove those blinders. He reminds us that we aren’t perfect, but that he is!

Do you have this relationship with the Lord? Has he opened your eyes to things that you once were blind to? When you are walking with Jesus, and I mean really walking with him, God will reveal things to you. You will see life differently. You will start to realize that there is so much more to Christianity than a “me” mindset. And until your heart breaks for the struggles of others, you won’t know the true meaning of the Cross.
