Facing Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Fear is easily accessible. From spiders, to in-laws, to commitment, we find ourselves victims of phobias, all while the most frequent command in the Bible is, “Do not be afraid”. Fear is a spirit that gets on you and causes you to be fear-full. It is the enemy of faith; the enemy of hope and it infects your whole life. While you may be free physically, fear enslaves you mentally.

But God, in His love, replaces a spirit of fear with a spirit of faith. His Spirit exposes the reality of fear and brings you into the light of hope. Fear, and the lies it brings, must flee in the Presence of God. Once God gets involved, fear no one longer makes you little, but becomes little.

The Word of God destroys the strongholds of the enemy, so we dive into it and allow God to fight our battles. Faith will always defeat fear.

“May you, if you have fear, also have faith with your fear, and then afterwards have your faith without any fear! When faith gets strong enough, fears are expelled!” – Spurgeon
