The moment you come to Christ and he awakens you out of your slumber, the biggest challenge is staying awake. There’s an invisible war taking place around us and the devil wants nothing more than to catch our spirits napping. That’s why the bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8 to:
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
The warfare begins once we’ve been awakened. We need to remember that the enemy always fights the hardest when he knows he has the most to lose. And he fights against those who are effectively advancing the Kingdom of God, as opposed to those who are just casual seekers of God. But the Bible instructs us to resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7). We do this by declaring God’s Word and His promises over our lives.
We also need to be continuously refreshing our spirits and feeding our souls the right things. Ask yourself if what you’re watching on TV or listening to on the radio is edifying your soul. Once you start making decisions that aren’t edifying you, you’re opening a door for the enemy to suck you in with temptation then leave you feeling guilty and condemned. We need to make healthy choices for our souls.
If we’re not continuously staying vigilant, refreshing our spirits, and feeding our souls, our spirits will fall back asleep. God’s vision for your life is to progress and move forward, not backwards. So, if you’re sold out for God, don’t be discouraged when you’re attacked or experiencing spiritual warfare. That’s how you know you’re in the will of God! As long as you’re rooted and grounded in Christ, no weapon formed against you will ever prosper.
